Tuesday, March Seventeenth
This morning, we left Chris and Katie’s farm and guesthouse, and headed back to the Philadelphia train station. The weather was so beautiful for driving- not a bit of fog or rain in sight. We arrived at the rental car drop off (located at the train station) with time to spare.
Planning to
eat lunch before getting on the train, we stepped into a little café, which I
can’t remember the name of, and enjoyed a tasty lunch. We even had enough time
to grab a couple pastries before boarding the train.
Remembering
how awful it was to sit near businessmen yacking on their earpieces in the last
couple of trains, we took care to not get in the same car as them. It was a
very relaxing train ride, for the most part, and we enjoyed a few leisurely
games of Bananagrams and Dutch Blitz in the Café Car as we rode.
The train arrived about an hour late in Williamsburg, around 7:00pm. Though the Williamsburg station was small, there were a few taxis lined up outside. Good thing, because we had just figured out that it is fairly far to our hotel. Normally we have just walked to our hotels from the train stations, but not this time.
We got into
the first taxi, and noticed its unusual driver… dressed in faded work jeans, a
stained tank top, and a drab looking plaid shirt that hung open in a
non-elegant fashion. His head was nearly covered by a mop of long, gray curls.
It was interesting, and his accent (we think maybe Italian) didn’t at all fit
his appearance. He was nice, though! If only we could have snapped a picture.
When we
were just about to our hotel, we noticed a Cracker Barrel restaurant, one of
our favorite restaurants that doesn’t exist in our area, and decided we’d go
there for a late supper. We love the atmosphere in there, and there food is
great too!
We were pleased
to see that this hotel has a pool and hot tub, because the last few ones
haven’t had either. We spent pretty much the rest of the evening in the pool
and hot tub.
As we were
getting ready for bed rather late in the evening, my Mom commented on how
peaceful this hotel seems, and how it sounded like no one is even near our
room. We spoke to soon. Around midnight, a massive group of kids (we think part
of a sports team or school field trip) came thundering into the hotel at full
speed. They were obnoxiously loud in the hallways, and actually ran up and down
the stairs nonstop. When my Mom finally complained to the front desk (after
shushing the kids several times), the man said that he basically couldn’t do
anything about it. Yeah, right. The kids continued to run up and down the
stairs, throughout the halls, and into the elevators till 1:00am. You had to
have been there to believe it, but they literally shook the floor of our room.
